Discovered: Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor may just be trying to protect his business with his opposition to Islamic banking

Since it was announced that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was going to start issuing licenses for Islamic banking, there has hardly been anybody more vocal and aggressive in their opposition to it than the current President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the President and founder of the Word of Life Bible Church Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. He had ensured that with his comments at several fora the issue was on the lips of virtually every Nigerian, young and old, Christian and Muslim.

He had accused the Central Bank Governor of using the nation's funds to promote a sectional bank. Despite several attempts by Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to explain that anybody with any other form of non-interest banking is free to apply and obtain a license from the CBN, Pastor Oritsejafor continued his campaign against Islamic banking.

I don't know what goes on in private with Pastor Oritsejafor but lately he has toned-down his aggressive posture. The Punch on Friday, 26th August 2011 quotes the pastor as saying:

“We are not against the Muslims, they are Nigerians and we are all Nigerians. All we are saying is that nobody should be treated like a second class citizen. We are not even against Islamic banking but what we are saying is that it should be the choice of the Muslims.

“We are also saying that the CBN Governor (Mallam Lamido Sanusi) cannot spend the nation’s money promoting sectional interests and this we must speak out against it. He cannot be using government money to drive Islamic banking and somebody has to say this. We want peace and we also want justice.

“If you want Islamic banking, promote it yourself. This is a sectional thing. We are watching the figures and if the Christians should come out with their own, he (Sanusi) should be ready to spend the same amount of money promoting it. He would have to set up a body of experts too like he is doing now.”

Now this is a different tone from what PM News reported Pastor Oritsejafor as saying on 25th, July 2011: “The lawmakers failed to ask the CBN governor very probing questions about the workability of the Islamic bank, the plot to Islamise the country which has already begun by re-introduction of Arabic symbols in the nation’s currency notes, and why Lamido Sanusi is using state funds to promote Islamic banking.”

According to him, well meaning Nigerians heaved a sigh of relief when all the major news media carried reports that the House of Representatives after its plenary on Tuesday, summoned the CBN governor to explain the apex bank’s stand on Islamic banking and the decision to peg daily cash withdrawal limit by individuals at N150,000 and N1 million for corporate customers effective 2012.

Oritsejafor further argued that “the Christian community in Nigeria which has been kept in the dark all along over CBN’s quest for an Islamic bank at the expense of other pressing economic issues has raised eyebrows over the workability of the policy which appears to be another attempt to Islamise the nation.

“That was why we were happy at the cheery news of the House of Representatives’ invitation to the CBN governor to explain his role in the controversial Islamic bank.

“But we were shocked that the honourable members did not even ask the Islamic scholar any questions apparently because he used the occasion to bamboozle them. Instead, what we witnessed was a blanket endorsement of the policy.

“What we saw on television, was to say the least a sham. Little wonder people have continued to call for a sovereign national conference to address come of the socio-economic problems militating against the nation,”

The pastor goofed when he said Arabic has been re-introduced on our Naira notes by Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. However, the most shocking revelation is that Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor is actually behind Eagle Flight Microfinance. This is an institution that seeks to bring ‘you the future in Microfinace banking.’ The beginning of the bank's Chairman's Statement on its website states: "Eagle flight Micro-finance which is an innate desire and dream of the President and founder of the Word of Life Bible Church Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. As a servant of God it has been his prayers, to be able to minister not only to the Spiritual aspects of human existence but also to be able to attend to the Physical and Economical well being of Souls."

The Chairman of Eagle Finance Microfinance is actually Pastor Helen Oritsejafor, wife of Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. It is quite a very cosy family affair. The husband eliminates the competition (Islamic banking) and the wife takes advantage through the family business (Eagle Flight Microfinance).

Now, there is nothing wrong for a pastor to own or promote a bank as a free citizen of Nigeria. However, it is highly irresponsible and shameful for a religious leader not to disclose to the world that he is going to be a major beneficiary if Islamic banking does not materialize in Nigeria. In addition, several people have noted that some of the comments about Islamic banking that the pastor had made in the past were heating the polity and could cause violence. Thank God they did not lead to violence only increased blood pressure for some people but if people had died, would they not of have died just because a businessman disguising as a religious leader wants to protect his private business interest?

May God deliver the good people of this country from the manipulations and schemes of people like this: did I hear you say a big Amen?

Don Jazzy and Dbanj fall prey to wazobiareports.com's tomfoolery; Don Jazzy is angry!

Popular spoof Nigerian website wazobiareport.com has created controversy with an article on D'banj and his Mo'Hits crew counterparts being involved with a secret global cult, the Illuminati. Read the article from wazobiareport.com below:

D’Banj and Mo’Hits records crew in Illuminati plot to turn the nation gay

Lagos – Finally there is incontrovertible proof that Nigerian superstar entertainer, D’Banj, and other members of Mo’Hits record label headed by prolific producer, Don Jazzy, are 100% confirmed members of the uber-evil secret cult, the Illuminati.

The undeniable evidence was provided by artistes of the record label themselves, causing Nigerians to philosophically comment that ‘they have used their own hands to do themselves.’

The evidence in question is a video clip produced by the record label in which D’Banj, Don Jazzy, Dr Sid, Wande Coal and an unidentified man dance like gay men to D’Banjs’ new hit single, Oliver Twist. Dr Zen Solonso, a Zen expert and an expert on everything Illuminati, analysed the video and exposed all the hidden Illuminati symbols in it. According to him, one of the biggest objectives of the Illuminati is to turn everybody gay – this is why their known members like Kanye West, dress like Gay men. It would be recalled that D’Banj and Don Jazzy have recently signed up to Kanye Wests’ record label.

In the group’s Oliver Twist video, they did not only dance like gay men, they also invite people to record their own Oliver videos and post it to them at [email protected]. And they even further enticed people with thousands of dollars that will be paid to the best video.
Already there are lots of videos on Youtube showing young people, both boys and girls, dancing like gay men to the Oliver Twist song.

Dr Solonso also pointed out that in the group’s video Don Jazzy is wearing what looks like chequered trousers. “This alternating pattern of white and black squares is the Illuminati’s mind control method,” he said. Indeed, according to the expert, the song’s catchy tune and highly danceable sound is down to Don Jazzy’s pants. Dr Solonso also pointed out that at some point in the video the unidentified man walks across the camera, holding a red bag and what looks like an enchanted horn.

Finally, the expert drew attention to the sound speakers and other electronic equipment arranged to spell the word ILLUMINATI behind the artistes as they dance like gay men.
This, according to him, is the strongest evidence that the video, the song, and the invitation for people to film their own Oliver Twist videos are nothing but an Illuminati plot to turn Nigerians gay. - Jowo Mabinu

However, it should be noted that this is all a joke and not meant to be taken seriously. Have a look at the website's disclaimer here; [i]This is an entertainment website. However, Don Jazzy has taken offence with this spoof as he tweeted the following this morning on social networking site Twitter:

DONJAZZY Michael Collins
hahahahahaha this is the dumbest story i have ever read. guys pls read. i don laff tire bit.ly/qr6Fk9

DONJAZZY Michael Collins
its stories like this about me that makes me doubt that the shit exists in the first place. bit.ly/qr6Fk9 hisssss.

DONJAZZY Michael Collins
instead of the idiot to say they want promo for their site. RT @Ekpedekumoebila: Who's d fool behind dat?! *SMH*

Obviously, he was so angry that he did not give a link to wazobiareports.com directly and chose another website instead.

How Did Nairaland Look Back Then?

Nairaland.com is currently ranked 1628 in the world by Alexa, thereby making it the most popular Nigerian-based website in the world. This is a great achievement for its owner Seun Osewa. I have been doing some research and wanted to see how the website looked in its early days. This I was able to do using the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. It is quite intriguing how this humble site back in the day is now as big as this.

I hope this will inspire you not to give-up on your dreams and work hard to achieve them. Already, many other Nigerians have created their own forums with the latest one that I know of being GetNaijaForum .

It will be interesting to see which entrepreneur will come out as the next star of the Nigerian web space after Seun Osewa, as the saying goes, 'time will tell.'

Indomie 2011 Postgraduate Scholarship

As part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives in the area of educational empowerment and development of Nigerians, Dufil Prima Foods Plc, makers of Nigeria's No.1 children favourite meal, Indomie Instant Noodles has announced the commencement of the 2011 Indomie National Post Graduate Nutrition scholarship Award.
The 2011 edition of the Indomie MSC Nutrition Awards is the third edition of the laudable CSR initiative of the company which was instituted three years ago for the Nigerian students studying Nutrition and Dietetics at masters' degree level with the aim of assisting the training of a high level Nutrition and Dietetics manpower in the country.

While explaining the rationale behind the scholarship scheme, Mr. Tope Ashiwaju, Public Relations manager, Dufil Prima Foods Plc, disclosed that the company's kind gesture was borne out of the fact that the company identified a wide knowledge gap in the Nutrition and Dietetics and as such decided to take the challenge to build manpower capacity in that regards.

"We are assisting and collaborating with the select Nigerian universities in training of high level Nutrition and Dietetics professionals and can only hope that over a period of time, this initiative will produce a critical mass of highly trained nutritionist that will continue to sustainably chart and guide the way to optimum nutrition for all Nigerians".

He further explained that in the last year's edition of the Indomie national Post Graduate Nutrition scholarship Awards, the company committed over 10 million naira to the scheme with about 12 students benefiting from the scheme and intends to do the same this year.
He said very few Universities offer nutrition at the degree and masters' level, a situation which has led to very small number of manpower in this sector of the Nigerian economy.

He further stated that the company is also enhancing the capacity of the schools in the training of manpower with handsome support to them through the scheme. He said it is the hope of the company that in the nearest future, Nigeria can boast of quality manpower in the area of nutrition and dietetics.
On the eligibility for the scholarship, Ashiwaju said "the scholarship is open to all Nigerian students qualified for admission to MSC Programme in Nutrition and Nutrition/Dietetics in the Nigerian University system. Awards will be made to qualified and suitable students from every geopolitical zone of the Federation including the FCT".

He advised eligible candidates to apply in writing,
providing their full names; photocopy of admission letter into the programme and application for admission; with details of educational history; and evidence of state of origin obtained from the appropriate Local Government Area and duly signed by the Chairman or Secretary and photocopy of NYSC certificate.

How Not to Skydive

We watch them on television; movies, commercials or sport shows and we wonder why would anybody want to jump from a flying airplane? Yes, we all know it’s dangerous but we love the spectacle not as much as they (skydivers) themselves though.

I just came across this tragic story of Jack Fogle aged 27 from Kingston Washington. He suffered from quadriplegia which is also known as Tetraplegia and is defined by Wikipedia as: “paralysis caused by illness or injury to a human that results in the partial or total loss of use of all their limbs and torso; Paraplegia is similar but does not affect the arms. The loss is usually sensory and motor, which means that both sensation and control are lost.”

Jack was a skydiver and jumped 18,000 feet to his death yesterday, Monday. He is believed to have been impaired by his ailment from being able to activate his primary parachute whilst his back-up parachute failed to activate. He hit the ground at a speed estimated to be 120 miles per hour.

Investigations by law enforcement officers indicate that Jack’s skydiving equipment was in good order and he might have made a mistake that prevented his reserve parachute to deploy and prevent his death.

Jack had jumped from a plane with 7 other skydivers on the ill-fated dive and the testimonies of his colleagues and video of the event make the police belief that Jack’s death is an accident and not a murder or suicide.

I think people should stop risking their lives unnecessarily just for an adrenalin rush, this guy had skydived 125 time before but the 126th one ended his life. Not only that, he was partially disabled and one has to wonder: what on earth was he thinking and why would his family allow him to take such risks? I pray that God gives his family the fortitude to bear this loss.
