Edinson Cavani signs 5-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain is pleased to announce the club has signed Uruguayan international Edinson Cavani from SSC Napoli to a five-year contract. He will wear the number 9 jersey.

Edinson Cavani, born in Salto in 1987, signed for Montevideo club Danubio FC in 2000 and, after coming through the club's youth ranks, made his professional debut during the 2005-06 season. The following year he scored five goals in 15 appearances.

In 2007 he transferred to Italian side US Palermo, where he played with current Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu. The No.7 quickly imposed himself at the point of the attack alongside another current Parisian in Javier Pastore during the 2009-10 campaign.

Approached by several clubs, he joined SSC Napoli in the summer of 2010. In his first season, the man nicknamed 'El Matador' scored 26 league goals, setting a new club record in Serie A.

After winning the Copa America with Uruguay in 2011, Edinson Cavani enjoyed an excellent 2011-12 season alongside another current Paris player Ezequiel Lavezzi. He lifted the Coppa Italia with SSC Napoli, scoring five goals in the competition.

Last season he scored 38 goals in 43 matches in all competitions, including 29 in Serie A. It was a performance that saw him named Capocannoniere, awarded to the competition's top scorer.
