Group Warns APC to Stop "Insulting" Jonathan

This is a very interesting bit of news...

President Jonathan

Stop insulting the president –Group warns APC

A pressure group, The Strategic Team (TST) has asked the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC)  to pick up the challenge on the debate of the scorecard of President Goodluck Jonathan  thrown at it by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and desist from what the group called “ an unwarranted indecent attacks on the office and person of the President of Nigeria.

A statement in Abuja by the Director General of the Group, Daniel Ohiomoba, said it was unfortunate that the  APC has misconstrued vitriolic attacks and destructive criticism of the Federal Government as an engagement rule and a measure of its responsiveness as an opposition party.

Asking the APC not to make destructive criticisms its trade mark, the group said the opposition could still keep the ruling party and its  government on their  toes without necessarily  trading in half truths and outright lies, arguing that using foul means to create relevance, exposes the emptiness of the opposition and could cause restiveness in the polity.

“We condemn this manner of opposition that  relinquishes its traditional role of objective criticisms to trade on vicious lies and deceit, an opposition party that takes as hobby,  an unrestrained distraction of the smooth delivery of democratic dividends to the people.  The APC has a duty to Nigerians to respond to the challenge of the PDP on this issue of debate or be damned as a loud mouthed megaphone of lies.”

“The underlying import of this challenge by the PDP is that the party  is not in for speculations as the achievements of President Jonathan are in the public  domain for all Nigerians to see in all critical sectors such as in education where six new federal universities were created and thousands of helpless children taken out of the streets in the North under the Almajiri education system, the  rebirth of our rail system as well as thousands of kilometers in road infrastructure and the second Niger Bridge,” the group said.

The Strategic Team further said that despite the current challenges  in the distribution and marketing of the petroleum products,  the situation has drastically improved from what it  was before the advent of Jonathan Presidency.

while further commending the President for the counter- insurgency measures recently unfolded by the government that has beaten terrorists to the brinks.

“It is high time, therefore the APC reconsidered its style and be objective in its criticisms. Let it  acknowledge  where government deserves commendation while responsibly providing alternatives in grey areas. That is the essence of opposition.  A situation where the APC has clearly abandoned this to hurl all manner of insults simple because  of the humble disposition of the President must  be condemned by all well meaning Nigerians,” the group said.

Giant Rat Caught in Sweden

I am tired of rats you know, so you should not be surprised that I am cheering on this family but this rat is huge! I have seen confirmed bad guys run from dead rats,  and as a rat hunter myself, I give the pest controllers credit for nabbing this vermin! As for that cat, I am sorry to say you are a disgrace to the feline family...hahahaha

Swedes catch 40cm 'rat from hell' in their kitchen

A family in Solna, north of Stockholm, had no idea what was in store when their pet cat was too scared to go into the kitchen.

"We thought it could be a little mouse, but after a while we figured it couldn't be because it was making too much noise," Signe Bengtsson told The Local.

Her worst fears were confirmed while emptying the trash a few days later when she saw a rat guzzling leftovers under the sink.

"It was right there in our rubbish bin, a mighty monster. I was petrified. I couldn't believe such a big rat could exist," she said.

"I couldn't help but do the old classic and jump on the kitchen table and scream."

Her husband Erik Korsås who was away at the time was dubious that such an enormous rat could really be living in his kitchen.

"When my wife called I said 'Yeah, sure, take it easy, I'll be home on Sunday. But by then it had jumped into the waste bin and had a Swedish smörgåsbord with all the leftovers," he said.

As the rat made more appearances over the next day, the family took to stomping around as they passed the kitchen to ensure they wouldn't meet the rat from hell again.

"By the time I got home, the rat was so domesticated that it just sat under the kitchen table," Korsås explained, adding that it had chewed through the water pipes connected to the dishwater and started a small flood.

When the family saw the rat scurrying into a nook behind the dishwasher, they put the kitchen on lockdown and called the pest controllers, who arrived with three heavy-duty traps.

The rat got caught by the neck soon after, but didn't die immediately and scurried away behind the dishwasher again. Bengtsson called her husband home to deal with the creature, which later died. He measured the rat to be 39.5 centimetres from nose to the start of its tail.

"The kids were afraid it would come back to life as some sort of zombie rat. They didn't want to touch it," Korsås added.

It turned out that the rat had found its way into the apartment cellars by chewing through cement and wood, the pest controllers explained.

"It was quite a shocking experience," Bengtsson said in summary. "No one wanted to go into the kitchen after, and the cat was terrified for a week. The pest controllers said they'd never seen such a big rat before."

As for the other family members, they've taken to joking about their ex-house guest.

"One of my sons said it was a Putin rat at breakfast this morning. But my older son, who has a few more years of education under his belt, said it was much more like a Viking rat and I agree with him," Korsås told The Local.

Steven Seagal Defends Putin's Actions in Crimea

This must be some sort of martial artists' solidarity. Steven Seagal is the actor that beats up the bad guys in movies without giving them a chance. That he is a friend of Vladimir Putin is not a surprise to me at all...

Steven Seagal on Putin's Crimea actions: Actor defends his 'brother'

Steven Seagal is defending Putin's actions in Crimea. The actor is best known for his action movies, but he has made a friend out of the Russian president. He even calls Vladimir Putin his 'brother.' Putin has received a lot of heat for his actions in Crimea. According to Huffington Post UK on March 27, Seagal has now spoken out in defense of the moves Putin has made in recent weeks. Seagal said the following:

"[Putin's] desire to protect the Russian-speaking people of Crimea, his assets, and the Russian Black Sea military base in Sevastopol … is very reasonable."

The actor has also called Putin 'one of the greatest world leaders.' This is definitely an odd couple. A friendship has developed between the action star and the leader though. This is not the first time Seagal has made comments about Russia. He spoke about the country and Putin in another interview last year.

Seagal is currently filming a movie in Romania. The actor has remained in the spotlight in recent years, but these comments about the situation in Crimea and Putin have earned him new attention. Is it the type of attention he wants? Many were surprised by his words, and he even earned a mention on Fox News on Wednesday night for his defense of Putin.

North Korean Men Must Get Leader's Haircut or Else?

You don't want to know...

North Korea's "Dear .Leader" Kim Jon-un

North Korean men have reportedly been ordered to get the same haircut as leader Kim Jong-un.

The new ‘fashion guideline’ was introduced two weeks ago, but not everyone is happy about the new style, which is short on the sides and long on top, reports The Korea Times.

“Our leader’s haircut is very particular, if you will,” one North Korean resident told Radio Free Asia.

“It doesn’t always god with everyone since everyone has different face and head shapes.”

The demand started in Pyongyang and is now being implemented across the country.

However, a North Korean exile said the look is very unpopular because it reminds people of Chinese smugglers.

“Until the mid-2000s we called it the ‘Chinese smuggler haircut’, the sources said.

Several Objects Found in Indian Ocean Believed to Be From Missing Plane

Interesting...

Dozens of objects spotted in the search for missing flight

New satellite images have revealed more than 100 objects in the southern Indian Ocean that could be debris from a Malaysian jetliner missing since March 8th with 239 people on board, Malaysia’s acting transport minister said today.

Hishammuddin Hussein told a news conference that the images were captured by France-based Airbus Defence and Space on Sunday.

They are the fourth set of satellite images to show potential debris from Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 in a remote part of the Indian Ocean roughly 2,500 km south west of Perth.

No confirmed debris from the Boeing 777 has yet been identified.

Meanwhile US equipment designed to detect black box signals arrived in Australia today.

A dozen aircraft from Australia, the United States, New Zealand, China, Japan and South Korea were once more scouring the seas in the hunt for wreckage, after bad weather yesterday forced the suspension of the search.

“The crash zone is as close to nowhere as it’s possible to be but it’s closer to Australia than anywhere else,” Australian prime minister Tony Abbott said, before leading the country’s parliament in a moment’s silence.

“A considerable amount of debris has been sighted in the area where the flight was last recorded. Bad weather and inaccessibility has so far prevented any of it from being recovered. But we are confident that it will be.”

Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak this week confirmed that Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which vanished while flying to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur, had crashed in the southern Indian Ocean.

Citing satellite-data analysis by British company Inmarsat , he said there was no doubt the Boeing 777 came down in one of the most remote places on Earth - an implicit admission that all 239 people on board had died.

Recovery of wreckage could unlock clues about why and how the plane had diverted so far off course in one of aviation’s most puzzling mysteries.

Theories range from a hijacking to sabotage or a possible suicide by one of the pilots, but investigators have not ruled out technical problems.

LG Introduces Smart Light Bulb

I think this is really cool...

LG Smart Bulb

LG Electronics, the South-Korean multi-national, has launched a new product called the LG Smart Light Bulb that employs Bluetooth or WiFi in our Android and iOS devices to bring some smart features. The new smart lightbulb can be remotely turned on or off using the device connected to it. In 'party mode', the brightness of the light can be varied depending upon the beat of the music played on your smartphone or tablet and it can be made to flash if you receive a phone call. Another interesting feature is the facility to program the light to act as an alarm clock i.e. the light will gradually get brighter from a pre-determined time in the morning till you want it to. All these features are of great help for people with hearing-problems.

And if that's not a lot, the LG Smart bulb features a security mode that makes it possible to turn the lights on for short periods while the user is away on holiday - This would keep burglars away from your house. Most LED Bulbs are great energy savers and last for a long time. LG's Smart Bulb are no exception to that.

Going further, the company believes that the addition of features such as - replying to a text message, receiving email alerts and notification about the door bell ringing - in the future would mean the deaf people or people with hearing impairments will have a much easier life. The bulb is compatible with Google Android 4.3 and above and Apple iOS 4.0 and 6.0. Currently, the LG Smart Bulb is being sold in South Korea at a price of 35,000 won (approx $33). The details about global launch and availability details are yet unknown.

What are your thoughts on the LG's Smart Bulb and the features it sports? Share with us in comments below.

Robots Deployed as Traffic Police in DR Congo

Interesting...

Kinshasa's traffic robot

DR Congo recruits robots as traffic police

The Democratic Republic of Congo's capital Kinshasa is notorious for bad traffic. So police are getting a helping hand to keep the cars moving.

Two giant traffic robots have appeared in the capital, a city where drivers normally spend hours in traffic and which has become notorious for corrupt traffic police.

Unlike their human counterparts, the robots, which have built-in cameras to report traffic offences to a central computer, are unable to collect bribes.

“There are several kinds of traffic lights in the world," said French engineer Thérèse Izay, who designed the robots.

"But I can tell you that the only robot, in human form, in the shape of a policeman who is regulating traffic, is made in Congo," she said.

Izay, who runs a women's technology cooperative, hopes authorities will pay for the robots to be installed in cities across Africa and beyond, to promote Congo's female engineers and create much-needed jobs.

So far pedestrians at a busy intersection seemed impressed with a robot, which, with its red lights on its front and back of its chest and green lights on its arms, was rotating to direct traffic.

“It is better than before. Now you can cross with confidence. The robot is doing its job correctly,” a pedestrian said.

Dead Immigration Candidates Family Members Get 3 Job Slots Each

Whilst the injured ones get automatic employment...

Cross section of Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) applicants in Abuja

Nigeria: Immigration Tragedy - Dead Candidates Get Three Job Slots Each

President Jonathan, yesterday, directed that three job slots each be reserved for families of those who lost their lives during the Nigeria Immigration recruitment exercise.

This is even as the Board of the Immigration Service, National Security and Civil Defence, Prisons and Fire Service Board, yesterday, indicted the Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, over the incident, saying the Board was sidelined.

Also, the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, disclosed yesterday that it had commenced investigation into the tragedy even as the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, joined others in calling for the sack of the minister and the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr David Parradang.

Jonathan compensates victims
President Jonathan has directed the immediate cancellation of the recruitment exercise. Instead, a special committee headed by the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Mrs Joan Ayo, will conduct the employment test to fill existing vacancies in the Nigeria Immigration Service.

The presidential directive was given at yesterday's Federal Executive Council meeting where the President further directed that those who lost their loved ones would have automatic slots for three applicants, one of whom must be a woman.

He also warned that henceforth, ministers and heads of government agencies where any death is recorded in the course of recruitment exercise would be tried for culpable homicide.

Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, who addressed State House correspondents after yesterday's FEC meeting said the President further directed that only the armed forces and the police are allowed mass recruitment exercises.

According to Maku, President Jonathan promised to personally pay condolence visits to the families of those who lost their loved ones while those who sustained injuries during the botched exercise were also to be given automatic employment.

Recruitment cancelled
Maku stated: "The President also took certain measures which he announced to Federal Executive Council. The first is that the Immigration recruitment exercise has been completely cancelled and he has directed that a new exercise will be conducted by a special committee under the chairmanship of the Chairman, Civil Service Commission to conduct the recruitment exercise to fill the vacancies of the Nigerian Immigration Service.

Goats Attack PDP Posters

It is not the best of times for Nigeria's ruling party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as the party and the federal government have come under heavy criticism by Nigerians because of several issues related to poor governance including but not limited to: insecurity, corruption, massive unemployment and poor electricity supply.

Therefore, it must be very alarming for PDP members to find out that animals may have joined the league of their opponents as the picture you are seeing shows goats apparently tearing and eating PDP posters. Whilst no goat whisperer was available to help us with an interview of the goats in question, it is safe to assume one of these 3 options might prove to be the case:

1. The goats are actually in opposition to the PDP.

2. The goats are so hungry in Nigeria that they have to resort to eating posters to survive.

3. The goats are just being err...goats.

Whatever option you choose, it does not look to good for the PDP or what do you think?

Crimea declares Independence from Ukraine

Well, what do we say? congratulations?

Russian fag flying on Ukrainian parliament building

EU and US impose sanctions on Russia and Ukraine officials

The EU and the US imposed travel bans and asset freezes on a score of officials from Russia and Ukraine on Monday as Crimea declared independence following a referendum.

Washington has targeted some of President Vladimir Putin’s closest advisers and other top Russian policy makers under an executive order signed by President Barack Obama.

The seven people on the US sanctions list include Vladislav Surkov and Sergei Glaziev, two aides to Mr Putin, Dimitri Rogozin, deputy prime minister, and Valentina Matviyenko, the head of the Federation Council, or upper house of parliament. Washington has also slapped sanctions on Sergey Aksyonov, the new pro-Russian prime minister of Crimea, and Vladimir Konstantinov, the speaker of the Crimean parliament.

The White House said its “current focus” was on targeting particular individuals and their personal assets “but not companies that they may manage on behalf of the Russian state”.

The EU said it was taking measures against 21 people including 13 Russians, but did not release the names. Officials said those hit by European sanctions would also include people from Russia’s parliament and armed forces but not Mr Putin’s immediate circle.

“We were hoping for Russia to de-escalate but instead the annexation is proceeding. We need to show solidarity with Ukraine – therefore Russia leaves us no choice [but to impose sanctions],” said Radoslaw Sikorski, Poland’s foreign minister.

Richard Branson Speaks About Entrepreneurship

"Everyone can be an entrepreneur if they want to be one badly enough. Do you?"

I agree with him, if you really want to be an entrepreneur, you can, you just have to set your mind to it and realise that those very big obstacles you face are stepping stones to achieving your dream.

Some may think we are "just saying", but it's a fact. I have not studied any entrepreneur that did not overcome great challenges to be successful.

Nicklas Bendtner to be fined for Copenhagen misconduct

This guy should probably quit football altogether, we call people like this "omotoyiogbon" in Yoruba...

Nicklas Bendtner

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner will be fined for controversial trip to Copenhagen, says Arsène Wenger

Nicklas Bendtner will be fined by Arsenal for a controversial trip to Copenhagen that the club say was unsanctioned. Arsène Wenger will talk to the Danish striker about exactly what happened on Tuesday evening when Bendtner is alleged to have unbuttoned his trousers and rubbed himself against a taxi after a night out in the Danish capital.
After stating that he has yet to ascertain fully what occurred, Wenger said: “Nobody gave him (Bendtner) any permission to go to Copenhagen. He will be fined for that.” Arsenal claimed at the time that Bendtner was injured and that was why he had not travelled to Munich for the Champions League tie.
Bendtner was reportedly out in Copenhagen, having watched the game on television in a restaurant, after which the incident is alleged to have taken place. Bendtner’s contract expires this summer and he will not be offered a new deal. “He is at the end of his contract at the end of the season,’’ emphasised an exasperated Wenger.

1 Dead After Explosion, Fire Levels Buildings In East Harlem

Flames and smoke were sent billowing into the air after an explosion leveled two buildings in East Harlem Wednesday, killing one person and injuring more than a dozen others.
It happened around 9:15 a.m. on Park Avenue on 116th Street, the FDNY said. One of the buildings that collapsed had a piano repair shop with apartments above. The second building housed a church.

The cause of the blast is still unclear, but Con Edison said crews were responding to the area on a report of a gas odor just prior to the explosion.

What your Mom Never Told you about Blogging

Mothers are by nature nurturers, teachers and care-givers; they guide their children through the maze of this tough and dangerous world. However, I am sure your mom never told you the following about blogging, not because she does not care about you but probably because she just does not know:

1. Blogging is Hard Work

You did not think it would be so hard did you? You thought all you needed to do was create a blog; start writing about yourself and/or your interests and the huge readership and following would come. I am sorry to burst your bubble but it does not work that way, for you to get consistent readership and following requires a lot of studying and applying the knowledge you have gained consistently over a period of time.

2. You are Not Going to Get Rich from Blogging Within 3 Months

Most new bloggers these days adopt blogging because they see it as a means to financial freedom. Whilst this is totally doable, you must realise that like any other business venture, competition is tough and only very few actually make any reasonable amount of money. For you to join this club in blogging, you have to stand-out from the millions of bloggers you are competing with for people’s time and attention. How to do this varies but ultimately you must have quality content and know how to get that content to as many people as possible to get any reasonable returns on your investment in blogging.

3. There is a Good Chance that You will Fail Woefully at Blogging

Blogging is not a job for lazy people or a means to generate a ridiculous amount of passive income. It is a very competitive activity and without the required skills, you are better-off maintaining a diary rather than getting yourself frustrated as a failed blogger with few or no readers and followers.

4. Blogging is Very Time-consuming

Any blogger worth the name should at least dedicate 30 hours a week to it. Failure to devote time to your blog is likely to bring you frustration and poor results in terms of having steady following and making money from it. Multiply 30 hours a week by the number of weeks in a year and see what that turns out to be; not a small period of time.

5. Work Smart not Necessarily Hard
Working hard is a good thing but you have to be able to distinguish smart work from hard work. You can work hard all-you-want as  a blogger but if you do not take time to learn how to work smarter, your efforts as  a blogger are not likely to be successful.

There you have it; you can share this with your kids even if you did not learn them from your mom. I am sure you understand that she probably will need you to teach her these points if she ever decides to be a blogger, not the other way round. I hope you have understood and enjoyed this post.

Thank you for reading, kindly share this post with your friends and let me have your thoughts on it by dropping a comment.
