Dutchman uses ‘mind over matter’ to endure freezing temperatures

The Dutchman is an eight-times world record holder for his ability to withstand sub-zero temperatures.
The 52-year-old completed a half-marathon in Finland two years ago in -20C (-4F) temperatures while wearing nothing but shorts.

The daredevil also spent 73 minutes and 48 seconds immersed in an ice bath in 2008.

His friend, photographer Henny Boogert, has compiled a record of Mr Hof’s feats after meeting him in Amsterdam more than 25 years ago doing naked yoga in the snow.

Henny said Wim was a regular in the parks of Amsterdam in the middle of the winter often sitting in freezing lakes reading a book.

The pair have travelled to polar ice caps, vast glaciers and a giant freezer where they played chess.

‘Wim has trained his body from an early age and he is a strong believer in mind over matter,’ Mr Boogert added.

6 arrested in India over gang-rape case

(Reuters) - Six suspects held in connection with the rape of a women in India have been charged with murder after she died on Saturday of injuries sustained in the attack, police said.

"They have been charged (with murder)," said Rajan Bhagat, a spokesman for New Delhi police.
The woman, who was gang-raped on a New Delhi bus on December 16, died in hospital in Singapore. The attack has sparked protests and a national debate about violence against women. All six suspects in the rape have been arrested and are in custody.

Google has released its Zeitgeist for 2012. This shows what people across the world are searching for on the ubiquitous search engine. Well, the number one "How to" Nigerians are asking for is "How to love". Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State in Ghastly Motor Accident

I don't know but Governors in Nigeria seem to be highly endangered at the moment, in the last month, one has died and there are serious speculations about the health of at the least 3 others. Now this sad news again:

Kogi State Governor involved in ghastly accident, aide dies instantly 

Information reaching us at DailyPost, have it that Kogi State Governor, Captain idris Wada, was involved in a serious car crash along Lokoja-Ajaokuta Expressway.

Our sources say one of the Governor’s aides, reportedly died on the spot, while Wada is said to be in critical condition.

This news comes less than two weeks after another Northern Governor, Patrick Yakowa died in the ill-fated helicopter crash in Okoroba, Bayelsa and over a month since Taraba Governor, Suntai, also had an accident with a private plane. He has been in a German hospital ever since and is rumoured to be brain-dead.

I think it is safe to assume that Vladamir Putin doesn't like America very much! The story follows:

Russia's President Putin signs bill banning Americans from adopting Russian children

 President Vladimir Putin has signed a bill banning Americans from adopting Russian children.

The bill is part of the country's increasingly confrontational stance with the West and has angered some Russians who argue it victimizes children to make a political point.

UNICEF estimates that there are about 740,000 children not in parental custody in Russia,.

The law also blocks dozens of Russian children now in the process of being adopted by American families from leaving the country. The U.S. is the biggest destination for adopted Russian children. More than 60,000 of them have been taken in by Americans over the past two decades.

It is retaliation for an American law that calls for sanctions against Russian officials deemed human rights violators.

Very strange but true stories

 Some Strange but True Stories.

1. A fierce gust of wind blew 45-year-old Vittorio Luise's car into a river near Naples, Italy in 1983. He managed to break out a window, climb out, and swim to shore -- where a tree blew over and killed him.

2. Mike Stewart, 31, of Dallas was filming a public service movie in 1983 on "The Dangers of Low-Level Bridges" when the truck he was standing on passed under a low-level bridge -- killing him.

3. Walter Hallas, a 26-year-old store clerk in Leeds, England was so afraid of dentists that in 1979 he asked a fellow worker to try to cure his toothache by punching him in the jaw. The punch caused Hallas to fall down, hitting his head, and he died of a fractured skull.

4. George Schwartz, owner of a factory in Providence, RI narrowly escaped death when a 1983 blast flattened his factory except for one wall. After treatment for minor injuries, he returned to the scene to search for his files. The remaining wall then collapsed on him, killing him instantly.

5. Depressed since he couldn't find a job, 42-year-old Romolo Ribolla sat in his kitchen near Pisa, Italy with a gun in his hand, threatening to kill himself in 1981. His wife pleaded for him not to do it, and after about an hour, he burst into tears and threw the gun to the floor. It went off and killed his wife.

6.This guy went out last Saturday night to a party. He was having a good time, had a couple of beers and some girl seemed to like him and invited him to go to another party. He quickly agreed and decided to go along with her. She took him to a party in some apartment and they continued to drink, and even got involved with some other drugs (unknown which). The next thing he knew, he woke up completely naked in a bathtub filled with ice. He was still feeling the effects of the drugs, but looked around to see he was alone. He looked down at his chest, which had "CALL 911 OR YOU WILL DIE," written on it in lipstick. He saw a phone was on a stand next to the tub, so he picked it up and dialed. He explained to the EMS operator what the situation was and that he didn't know where he was, what he took, or why he was really calling. She advised him to get out of the tub. He did, and she asked him to look himself over in the mirror. He did, and appeared normal, so she told him to check his back. He did, only to find two 9 inch slits on his lower back. She told him to get back in the tub immediately, and they sent a rescue team over. Apparently, after being examined, he found out more of what had happened. His kidneys were stolen. They are worth 10,000 dollars each on the black market. (I was unaware this even existed.) Several guesses are in order: The second party was a sham, the people involved had to be at least medical students, and it was not just recreational drugs he was given. Regardless, he is currently in the hospital on life support, awaiting a spare kidney. The University of Texas in conjunction with Baylor University Medical Center is conducting tissue research to match the sophomore student with a donor any information leading to the arrest of the individuals may be forwarded to the University of Texas Campus police, or the Texas Rangers.
