Jose Mourinho On the Brink of Being Sacked at Chelsea
This is the worst spell in Jose Mourinho's career as a football manager as he himself has admitted and with Chelsea's 1-3 loss to Liverpool today at Stamford bridge, it seems certain that 'the special one' has lost his touch and has to go.
Chelsea owner, Roman Abrahamovich is already considering several managers as Mourinho's replacement including Brendan Rodgers who just got fired by Liverpool and Andre Villas-Boas.
Mourinho is also reported to be considering opportunities at other clubs.
It seems a rather sad end to Chelsea's most successful manager's career at the club.

Why You Should Associate With a Bigger Brand: The Chivita FC Example
As a manager at a startup, one of the most frequent decisions we have to make is whether to deploy our limited resources towards promotion and advertising without any guarantee of a decent return on investment (ROI). Regardless of the size of your business, there will always be less-expensive means of advertising and promotion. So, the decision to spend more has to be made cautiously. Otherwise, it could be a waste of very limited resources.
Now, I was a little bit surprised when Chi, one of Nigeria's top conglomerates splashed huge sums on an endorsement deal with one of the biggest football (soccer) clubs in the world, Manchester United. The question for me at that point was: why is Chi spending so much money on this deal when it is aleeady an established brand in Nigeria and even South Africa? Is the additional spending worth it when the company could embark on other forms of advertising and promotion at a lower cost?
I wasn't convinced that Chi was getting '100% or nothing' from the Manchester United endorsement deal for its Chivita drink until this afternoon when I checked Twitter and found 'Chivita FC' trending in Nigeria.
Fans of rival English clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea were mocking Manchester United for losing 1-3 to Middlesbrough on penalties after a 0-0 draw at the end of 90 minutes in the Capital One Cup last night and dubbed the team "Chivita FC" based on the Chivita advert in which the club's current and former players are seen splashing in juice while playing football and at the end they shout: "Chivita, 100% or nothing".
It hit me, that Chi has not wasted money to get endorsed by Manchester United and it is obvious that Chivita is benefitting from its association with the club.
The lesson for me is that while getting yourself identified with bigger brands might be expensive, it does pay-off in the long run when you get your campaign right. So, not only do you have to spend money to get endorsed, you should also be creative with your promotional campaign to get the best mileage and ROI.
Manchester United may have lost last night, but Chi and Chivita won and continue to win by association.
China Ends One-Child Policy
China is notorious for its 1-child policy which means the overwhelming majority of the population are allowed to have only one child. This policy the government believed would allow the country have sustainable development but after 35 years the policy is now being abandoned for a new one...
China abandons one-child policy after 35 years
China has scrapped its notorious one-child policy, allowing couples to have two children for the first time in more than three decades, official media reported on Thursday.“China abandons one-child policy,” Xinhua, China’s official news agency, announced on Twitter.
For months there has been speculation that Beijing was preparing to abandon the highly controversial family planning rule, which was introduced by Communist leaders in 1980 amid fears of a catastrophic population explosion.
The government credits it with preventing 400 million births, but the human cost has been immense, with forced sterilisations and abortions, infanticide, and a dramatic gender imbalance that means millions of men will never find female partners.

Mark Zuckerberg Visits Taj Mahal
Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg is visiting India and has found time to visit the Taj Mahal and was apparently stricken by the iconic edifice.
He wrote on his Facebook page: "I've always wanted to see this. It is even more stunning than I expected. It's incredible what people can build -- and what love can motivate us to build."
The Taj Mahal is a monument by Shah Jahan to his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal who died while delivering their 14th child in 1631. It took 22 years and 22,000 labourers to build. They are both buried in the monument.
Completed in 1653. the Taj Mahal is regarded as one of the 7 Wonders of the World.

Why WhatsApp Needs the Mentions Feature
WhatsApp has become the preferred messaging platform globally all-but-killing SMS in some countries.
I am not a chatty person whether online or offline but I found about 2 years ago that I needed to be able to communicate with people instantly because of some projects I was working on and organizations I belong to.
WhatsApp groups feature came-in handy in this regard and while it is not the only instant messaging service that has this feature, it's cross-platform availability and acceptance make it one of the easiest instant messaging services to use for this purpose.
Now, back to the groups I belong to, I have a problem that I think many people face and the team at WhatsApp can help solve. It is that a lot of times, I am not interested in the issues being discussed in a group at a certain time,; may have muted the group but would still like to know if someone has referred to me in the entire stream of sometimes thousands of messages.
A mentions feature would really help in this regard so that I get notifications when my profile name or phone number gets mentioned in the group. Right now, I have to ignore a lot of important comments addressed to me because I can sort through the streams of messages in different groups.
I know a search feature exists but is not efficient for this purpose as I would still miss majority of mentions if I rely on it.
Let's hope that the mentions feature comes to WhatsApp soon.
Do you have a similar problem with WhatsApp? How do you address it? Let me know by dropping a comment.

Tinubu and the Singing Sycophants
Deji Tinubu |
I am a proud Nigerian and this piece is not in any way meant to bash or denigrate Nigerians. It is a commentary on what I perceive as a societal ill.
The cabinet of the Lagos State government was inaugurated on Monday and one of those sworn-in is the new Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports and Chairman, Lagos State Sports Council, Deji Tinubu who is definitely qualified for the position having been in sports business for about 2 decades.
What happened when he resumed office as shown on Lagos television epitomizes why and how many of our leaders fail. He was being introduced to staff and there was nothing out-of-place with the men but the women had started praise-singing. Praise-singing is the tool of Nigerian acolytes particularly in politics to curry favour from their patrons.
Frankly, it is wrong when staff of a government institution are meeting their new boss and start singing his praises because it is at best a distraction and at worst a tool of manipulation that encourages a leader to be incompetent.
Leaders may be tempted not to perform when people sing their praises for doing nothing other than appear and probably throw a few 'scraps' of money at them (not suggesting that Deji Tinubu did). It is this na you biko syndrome that encourages failure to serve and deliver value in most of our public sector.
The earlier we reduce praise-singing and focus on giving our leaders legitimate support while holding them accountable, the better for us.
To be sure singing and dancing are a big part of our culture that are very difficult to remove from politics. However, it should not become so absurd to the point that it encourages leaders to fsil even before they assume office.

Why the BlackBerry Priv Could Be a Huge Success
BlackBerry lost the smartphone OS wars but it might be on its way back to the top with its first Android device, Priv. The reason for this assertion is not difficult to understand once you get to know that Priv which stands for 'private' is going to have the following security features:
(via AndroidCentral):
- BlackBerry’s
Hardware Root of Trust, a unique manufacturing process that injects
cryptographic keys into the device hardware, providing a secure
foundation for the entire platform.
- Verified Boot and Secure
Bootchain, which uses the embedded keys to verify every layer of the
device from hardware to OS to applications in order to make sure they
haven’t been tampered with.
- A hardened Linux kernel with numerous patches and configuration changes to improve security.
- FIPS 140-2 compliant full disk encryption on by default to protect your privacy.
- The
BlackBerry Infrastructure, a secure distributed global network that
transmits petabytes of encrypted data to and from the world’s most
powerful leaders and professionals.
- BES12, the leading Enterprise Mobility Management platform used by the world’s most powerful governments and corporations.
It also comes with BlackBerry's signature physical QWERTY keyboard and the Hub from BB10.
The strategy for BlackBerry is very simple and should be effective- taking advantage of the widespread acceptability of the Android OS while adding the renowned security features that made BlackBerry such a huge hit in its glory days.
The likes of Samsung and HTC had better watch out because BlackBerry is in all likelihood coming back with the proverbial bang!

Top 10 Most Popular Jobs in the UK in 2015
You might have read my posts on the Top 10 Most Popular Jobs in the United States in 2015 and the Top 10 Most Popular Jobs in Canada in 2015, and to complete the trilogy for the 3 most advanced English-speaking countries in the northern hemisphere, I present the Top 10 Most Popular Jobs in the United Kingdom as compiled by alec.co.uk:
- Data Communications Analysts: More and more organisations now stay in touch internally and externally with other sites via networked communications. Analysts are responsible for overseeing the installation and maintenance of such networks, which are now becoming critical to the economic and social infrastructure.
- Marketing Officer: Once existing solely in the private sector, the marketing function is also now an intrinsic aspect of organisational life in the public and voluntary sector. The development of the Internet has served to add to the marketing role, meaning that marketing opportunities continue to grow.
- Software Engineers: The IT job sector grows in size as technological advances continue to be made. Computerised systems are ever more present in every area of organisational activity. Software engineers, who design and develop new applications to meet specific needs, are in ever greater demand.
- Medical Administrator: There is an increasing need for administrators and clerical staff in the healthcare sector, which continues to grow.
- Community Nurse: The development of primary healthcare sees more nursing activities taking place in the local community than ever before. The openings for community nurses, who perform non-surgical tasks in the home or other local settings, are increasing year on year.
- Advertising Agency Account Executive: The media sector is becoming ever more specialised and complex, with an increasing number of specialist publications, broadcast channels and online media. An increasing level of targeted marketing through advertising is seeing growth in the number of opportunities for advertising executives.
- Customer Services Assistant: The growth of Customer Relationship Management has led to the establishment of many more customer service teams, who are dedicated to responding to customer queries and fulfilling services requested by the telephone or online.
- Information Officer: Digital technology has enabled organisations to store more data more efficiently than in the past. Consequently, more personnel are needed who can offer specialist skills in operating database software and information networks, retrieving and disseminating information as necessary.
- Administrator: Secretarial jobs may be decreasing as the personal computer changes the shape of office processes, yet administrative jobs are growing, largely due to the centralisation of organisational systems.
- Engineer: There is a growing demand for highly trained, skilled personnel who are able to meet the needs of the mechanical,
electrical, electronic, automotive, biomedical and civil engineering sciences.

Issa Hayatou's First Official Statement As FIFA Acting President
Can Issa Hayatou lead FIFA out of crisis? |
FIFA the governing body for football or soccer (if you are in America) has been embroiled in one scandal after another in the last year and it has culminated in the suspension of its erstwhile President Sepp Blatter and his biggest rival, UEFA President, Michel Platini on suspicion of corruption. Read Hayatou's first official statement as Acting FIFA President next:
Today, amid extraordinary circumstances, I have assumed the office of FIFA President pursuant to Article 32 (6) of the FIFA Statutes.
I will serve only on an interim basis. A new President will be chosen
by the Extraordinary Congress on 26 February 2016. I myself will not be a
candidate for that position.
Until the Extraordinary Congress, I pledge that I will dedicate my best efforts to the organisation, the member associations, our employees, our valued partners, and football fans everywhere. FIFA remains committed to the reform process, which is critical to reclaiming public trust. We will also continue to cooperate fully with authorities and follow the internal investigation wherever it leads.
Football has never enjoyed greater support throughout the world, and that is something everyone associated with FIFA should be proud of.

Top 10 Most Popular Jobs in Canada in 2015
Having done the Top 10 jobs in the United States in 2015, I feel obliged to do that of Canada as well because by many performance indicators, Canada has a better quality of life than the United States and is a popular destination for many people seeking to migrate from their current country of residence.
Without further delay, here are the Top 10 Jobs in Canada in 2015 as researched by alec.co.uk:
- In-Home Nurse: Under the supervision of
doctors and more highly trained nurses, Licensed Practical and Licensed
Vocational Nurses
take care of individuals with health problems, whether they are
sick, dying, or disabled. As the preference for care moves to the home,
there will
be more opportunities for In-Home Nurses.
- Nurse Practitioner: As healthcare provision continues to grow in non-hospital settings, the openings for nurse practitioners, who provide a level of direct medical care to patients and acts as a consultant to other practising nurses, continue to increase.
- Programmer Analyst: Computer programmers write, test, and maintain the detailed instructions, called programs, which computers must follow to perform their functions. As digital technology continues to advance, the need for skilled analysts and programmers will continue to grow.
- Physician and Surgeon: The expansion of both the public and private healthcare sectors leads to an increasing number of specialist areas and an ever increasing need for physicians and surgeons.
- Teacher, Special Education: The greater awareness and development of educational approaches for students with special needs is leading to the expansion of this educational sector.
- Pharmacist: Today's pharmacists work with patients to determine what the patient's needs are and what care should be provided. This is called "pharmaceutical care", and it is all about identifying, resolving and preventing medication-related problems. Increasingly, pharmacists are working in a range of settings.
- Psychiatrist: Psychiatrists are physicians (medical doctors) who specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness and emotional disorders, and act as consultants for other physicians. Psychiatrists work in hospitals, mental health clinics and private offices.
- Radiological Technician: Radiological technologists - also known as x-ray technicians - explain procedures to patients, make images for physicians to interpret, and keep records of patients' treatments. Government economists expect job growth for x-ray technicians to be faster than the average for all careers.
- Registered Nurses: Changes in the healthcare system continue to broaden the opportunities for nurses. An especially important trend is the increasing number of services that emphasise illness prevention and health promotion programs. Many of these are planned and staffed by registered nurses.
- Physiotherapist: Physiotherapists assess patients and plan and carry out individually designed treatment programs to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning and alleviate pain. Employment in hospitals, clinics, sports organisations, extended care facilities and private practice continues to expand.

Full Transcript of President Muhammadu Buhari's Independence Day Speech
President Muhammadu Buhari |
Today is October 1, Nigeria's Independence day and as is customary, the President has addressed the nation. Below is the speech made this morning by President Muhammadu Buhari.
PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI’S 55th YEAR INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION BROADCAST ON THURSDAY 1st OCTOBER,2015
October
1st is a day for joy and celebrations for us Nigerians whatever the
circumstances we find ourselves in because it is the day, 55 years ago;
we liberated ourselves from the shackles of colonialism and began our
long march to nationhood and to greatness.
No
temporary problems or passing challenges should stop us from honoring
this day. Let us remind ourselves of the gifts God has given us. Our
Creator has bequeathed to us Numbers – Nigeria is the ninth most
populated country on the planet. We have in addition:
• Arable land
• Water
• Forests
• Oil and gas
• Coastline
• Solid minerals
• Water
• Forests
• Oil and gas
• Coastline
• Solid minerals
We
have all the attributes of a great nation. We are not there yet because
the one commodity we have been unable to exploit to the fullest is
unity of purpose. This would have enabled us to achieve not only more
orderly political evolution and integration but also continuity and
economic progress.
Countries far less endowed have made greater economic progress by greater coherence and unity of purpose.
Nonetheless,
that we have remained together is an achievement we should all
appreciate and try to consolidate. We have witnessed this year a sea
change in our democratic development. The fact that an opposition party
replaced an entrenched government in a free and fair election is
indicative of the deeper roots of our democratic system. Whatever one’s
views are, Nigerians must thank former President Jonathan for not
digging-in in the face of defeat and thereby saving the country untold
consequences.
As
I said in my inaugural speech, I bear no ill will against anyone on
past events. Nobody should fear anything from me. We are not after
anyone. People should only fear the consequences of their actions. I
hereby invite everyone, whatever his or her political view to join me in
working for the nation.
My
countrymen and women, every new government inherits problems. Ours was
no different. But what Nigerians want are solutions, quick solutions not
a recitation of problems inherited. Accordingly, after consultations
with the Vice President, senior party leaders and other senior
stakeholders, I quickly got down to work on the immediate, medium-term
and long-term problems which we must solve if we are to maintain the
confidence which Nigerians so generously bestowed on us in the March
elections and since then.
As
you know, I toured the neighboring countries, marshal a coalition of
armed forces of the five nations to confront and defeat Boko Haram. I
met also the G7 leaders and other friendly presidents in an effort to
build an international coalition against Boko Haram. Our gallant armed
forces under new leadership have taken the battle to the insurgents, and
severely weakened their logistical and infrastructural capabilities.
Boko Haram are being scattered and are on the run. That they are
resorting to shameless attacks on soft targets such as I.D.P. camps is
indicative of their cowardice and desperation. I have instructed
security and local authorities to tighten vigilance in vulnerable
places.
On
power, government officials have held a series of long sessions over
several weeks about the best way to improve the nation’s power supply in
the safest and most cost effective way. In the meantime, improvement in
the power supply is moderately encouraging. By the same token, supply
of petrol and kerosene to the public has improved throughout the
country. All the early signs are that within months the whole country
would begin to feel a change for the better.
Preliminary
steps have been taken to sanitize NNPC and improve its operations so
that the inefficiency and corruption could be reduced to a minimum.
Those of our refineries which can be serviced and brought back into
partial production would be enabled to resume operations so that the
whole sordid business of exporting crude and importing finished products
in dubious transactions could be stopped.
In
addition to NNPC, I have ordered for a complete audit of our other
revenue generating agencies mainly CBN, FIRS, Customs, NCC, for better
service delivery to the nation. Prudent housekeeping is needed now more
than ever in view of the sharp decline in world market oil prices. It is
a challenge we have to face squarely. But what counts is not so much
what accrues but how we manage our resources that is important.
We
have seen in the last few years how huge resources were mismanaged,
squandered and wasted. The new APC government is embarking on a clean
up, introducing prudence and probity in public financing.
At
an early stage, the federal government addressed the issue of salary
arrears in many states, a situation capable of degenerating into social
unrest. The APC government stepped in to provide short-term support to
the owing states and enabled them to pay off the backlog and restore the
livelihood of millions of Nigerians.
Fellow
Nigerians, there have been a lot of anxiety and impatience over the
apparent delay in announcement of ministers. There is no cause to be
anxious. Our government set out to do things methodically and properly.
We received the handing over notes from the outgoing government only
four days before taking over. Consequently, the Joda Transition
Committee submitted its Report on the reorganization of Federal
Government structure after studying the hand over notes. It would have
been haphazard to announce ministers when the government had not
finalized the number of ministries to optimally carry the burden of
governance.
Anyway,
the wait is over. The first set of names for ministerial nominees for
confirmation has been sent to the senate. Subsequent lists will be
forwarded in due course. Impatience is not a virtue. Order is more vital
than speed. Careful and deliberate decisions after consultations get
far better results. And better results for our country is what the APC
government for CHANGE is all about.
I
would like to end my address this morning on our agenda for CHANGE.
Change does not just happen. You and I and all of us must appreciate
that we all have our part to play if we want to bring CHANGE about. We
must change our lawless habits, our attitude to public office and public
trust. We must change our unruly behavior in schools, hospitals, market
places, motor parks, on the roads, in homes and offices. To bring about
change, we must change ourselves by being law-abiding citizens.
Happy Independence Celebrations. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria. God Bless.
